Estate planning documents should be kept secure. Many people keep them in their safe deposit box, or other secure location. There is a drawback in that, that unless someone else has access to the safe deposit box, it is necessary to apply to the court for an order to enter the safe deposit box and remove the will. Another option is that many attorneys will actually retain original documents for their clients for safekeeping.
